Wasp Nest Have Started in Hertfordshire — Act Fast Before the Problem Gets Worse

A new nest grows quickly through the season. Here is how to spot one early and what to do about it.

Why early matters

If you have noticed more wasps around your property, a nest may have started nearby. Wasps begin building from late April, depending on the weather, and a nest keeps growing through the summer. A single nest can come to hold from 2,000 up to 10,000 or more wasps, so a small nest that is easy to ignore in spring can become a real problem by August.

Where to look

Wasps will build in any crack or crevice as long as there is a void behind it: in the eaves of a house, in a garden wall, in trees and bushes, in birdhouses, in loft space and in chimneys. Look for a steady line of wasps flying in and out of one spot. Watch from a distance and do not poke or block the gap.

Do not tackle it yourself

Please do not approach a wasp nest or take things into your own hands. A nest can contain 2,000 or more wasps and they can swarm and sting if they feel threatened.

We destroy wasp nests at domestic and business premises, timber yards and other outside workplaces. The price is fixed at £70 per nest with no call-out charge, and £30 for an additional nest on the same property. We confirm the price on the phone before we visit.
